Nick Warren – August 09 Ambient mix

August 10, 2009

Nick Warren

Where to start. From Way Out West, to the very first Back To Mine compilation, Nick Warren has his name against some of my favourite productions, remixes and compilations.  Back To Mine 001 is still champion of ‘most treasured LP within my collection’ and isn’t set to lose that title anytime soon: Moby – Go (Jan & Spoon Dub), Talismantra – Warmth Reheated, and classics from Craig Armstrong and Coldcut. If you needed an introduction to great ambient/downtempo music, this would be a rather good start.

Nick Warren then preceded to give us Ulrich Schnauss, Global Communication and Boards of Canada, with his GU24 Reykjavik compilation. This was probably the first time such beautiful downtempo music had graced the GU compilations. Ring a bell?

Move on to 2007, and he continues breathing downtempo life into the GU series with GU30 – Paris. This time, featuring the Justin Robertson remix of Love Movement, Joey Fehrenbach, Tripswitch, Miika Kuisma and Audioglider.

So, not that it needed any, that’s the hype and here’s Nick Warren’s latest mix. Tracklisting is still in ambient oblivion, but as soon as it’s out there it will be up on here. To put it simply, I would go insane not knowing what some of the tracks featured on this mix are.

UPDATE 3rd September: The tracklist arrives:

Jonsi & Alex “Sleeping Giant”
Jonsi & Alex “Indian Summer”
Jonsi & Alex “Stokkseyri”
Jon Hopkins “The Wider Sun”
Jon Hopkins “A Drifting Up”

Alva Noto “Monophaser 2″
Rafael Anton Irisarri “Watching as she reels”
Porn Sword Tobacco “the Lava Life”
Chelxia Chan “Ein Hyringur” Sigur Ros remix Hope recordings

Love movement

September 18, 2008

For the Ulrich Schnauss fans that stumble upon this blog (and i am sure there are many), i just thought i would point out (and boast), i succesfully bid and won on Ulrich Schnauss’ greatest remix ever – Justin Robertson’s, Love Movement. If you havent heard it, then check it out below. Only available on cd compilations (Sunday Best Sessions, GU30, Art of Chill 2) and not included in any of Ulrich’s albums (only a rare Ulrich sampler) , its an elusive find on vinyl. The times i have found it on precious plastic include a GU Nick Warren-Paris compilation, and the hard-to-find Justin Robertson original release from 2003. GET IN.

Oh, and to come back to this, i have just conversed with the seller of the item, only to find his brilliant site – check it out for a few nice little mixes (and check the record’s on sale while your there!)
