A while ago, they started archiving podcasts without giving me the chance to save them all, so i lost some absolute beauties. But now, the numbers included in that URL are as valuable to me as the winning lottery numbers… (almost).

If you don’t fancy downloading them all – here’s my pick of the bunch.

RA017 – Matthew Styles. One of the earlier mixes and one of the best from ex Crosstown Rebels head honcho.
RA032 – Henrik Schwarz. Henrik’s own style of instrumental techno and minimal techno
RA074 – Prins Thomas. Live set featuring some biggies such as LCD Soundsystem 45-33 and Aeroplane’s debut track Caramellas
RA098 – Todd Terje. Groovy techy Disco.
RA102 – Fourtet. Psychedelic electronica.
RA104 – Quiet Village. Samples and soundtracks.
RA114 – Aeroplane. For me, the best mix i heard last year
RA126 – Motorcitysoul. Never heard of them before this, now i look out for them all the time.
RA131 – Johnno Burgess. 80’s cheesefest spectacular
RA134. Danny Howells. Does what he does best.
RA136 – The Orb. As expected, beatless bliss.
RA144 – Surgeon. Hard, Room 1 Fabric Techno. I fooking love this.
RA147 – DJ Pete. The latest release, dubstep and dubby techno.

Lets hope that treasure chest stays up long enough for us to grab them all.

RA Goes beatless – RA 136: The Orb

I have been waiting for quite a while for a decent chill-out mix to creep up within the Resident Advisor Podcast. The Quiet Village episode was close on the downtempo tip, but if anyone is going to do it and do it properly, its The Orb. RA have officially published its first ambient podcast – about time.

Proper ambient beatless bliss. The mix takes on the familiar Kompakt Pop Ambient guise, with fellow ex Orb’er Thomas Fehlmann’s influences oozing throughout and Ulf Lohmann providing the epic ‘Nicht Die Welt’ mid-way through. No tracklisting has been put up, to many RA members disgust, so please feel free to id any of the tracks.

The Art of Chill 5 mixed by Bent

The Art of Chill series, released on Platipus recordings, is one of my favourite compilation series going. My favourite being the bible of chill – Jon Hopkins release, followed closely by the ‘alternative’ trance mix by Altitude, then the Orb’s release. Bringing up the rear is the System 7 mix on a par with this release – Bent.

That was after one listen. After my first attempt to enjoy the mix, it has becoming increasingly likeable. My favourite assets of the former releases have been the very deep and sleep inducing moments such as Root Masters and Aphex Twin. So i was a little dissapointed when first listening to the Bent mix.

However, you have to realise this is nothing like previous Art of Chill releases. This mix offers up alternative, piano, instrumental and classical chill out. With Big guns such as Craig Armstrong and Kirsty Hawkshaw supporting nicely, its the likes of Ben Benjamin, Nonostar and Helios that do this mix justice. CD1 goes very classical, and CD2 opts for a more ‘Art of Chill’ sound. An essential purchase for anybody wanting to chill the fuck out. Looking forward to the next compilation!
